It is, in my humble opinion, one of the best cities in the world for people who love to eat. Since I both love to eat and love to travel, I feel I’m somewhat of an authority on whether or not a place if a “food mecca”. I’m telling you, L.A. is it. From the humble yet innovative food trucks roaming the streets all the way to the finest of fine dining, I could write a 300-page essay on all the good places to eat in L.A. and still only really scratch the surface.
As I’m often in L.A., I’m sure I’ll write more “awesome places to eat in L.A.” articles in this blog over time, because honestly, there is no shortage of those. That being said, I wanted to point out a few of my favorite spots in the City of Angels. These are places that I find myself returning to again and again because I just can’t get enough.
There is no shortage of good Mexican food in Southern California. However, Frida goes above and beyond with some of the freshest flavors I’ve had in a long time. Their more upscale versions of Mexican classics elevate the cuisine to a new level.
One of my favorite things to order at Frida is ceviche. They have such an amazing selection of ceviches and they are always fresh and delicious. I also recommend ordering one of their classic moles, which is something you can’t always find in Mexican restaurants but is incredibly delicious. Of course, you can’t go wrong with classics like tacos and enchiladas, either. It’s all good.

With locations in Glendale, Westwood, Del Amo, and Beverly Hills, you can satisfy your urge for intensely delicious flavor no matter what part of town you are in. Additionally, you can visit their taco shops, Frida Tacos, in Pasadena, East Pasadena, Westside Pavillion, Melrose, and Brentwood.
I know, I know. With a name like ‘The Oinkster,’ images of huge, heaping piles of greasy pork immediately come to mind. Hear me out. It’s not.
They bill themselves as a fast-casual concept, and at first glance, the menu is very familiar: burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads. Where they differ is in quality. The Oinkster is very high-quality food with high attention to detail. It’s just good, classic food done really, really well.
The Oinkster Pastrami sandwich is their House Cured Pastrami served with Red Cabbage Coleslaw, Caramelized Onions and Gruyere Cheese, and a pickle spear. I’ve had it and I can tell you it’s fantastic.
While you’re at it, try an order of their Piggy Fries, which are topped with Homemade 1000 island, carmelized onions, and shredded cheddar cheese. It’s as indulgent and fantastic as it sounds.
Little Dom’s is a tiny, unassuming Italian restaurant in L.A. The menu is classic Italian fare.
The food? fantastic! You might want to make a reservation for this one. But what makes this place even better is that Little Dom’s also serves breakfast and it’s possibly even better than their dinner.
If brunch items such as Pizza with Sunnyside Up Egg, Speck, Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce or Oven Roasted French Toast Souffle with Creme Fraiche Whipped Cream & Maple Syrup get your taste buds tingling, this might just be the place for you.
Mud Hen Tavern
Chef Susan Feniger has done it again with another awesome restaurant concept. I was so sad when she closed her amazing restaurant Susan Feniger Street, but the Mud Hen Tavern is what she transformed it into. We’ll just call it The Restaurant Formerly Known as Susan Feniger’s Street. The Mud Hen Tavern is a casual neighborhood restaurant that doesn’t try too hard to be overly fancy.
Instead, it lures people back again and again because of its incredible food. Stop by for brunch and enjoy such delights as deviled eggs with green salsa, breakfast ravioli benedict, or simply, the hangover burger. If you’re stopping by at dinnertime, treat yourself to some pumpkin ravioli, poached chicken with mole verde, or southern shrimp and grits carbonara.
Pair your meal with a craft beer or perhaps a cocktail, and if you’re still hungry, you can end your meal with awesome desserts such as a maple old fashioned donut or a baked apple hand pie. It really doesn’t get much better than this.
If Italian with a creative twist is your thing, you’re going to want to head over to Alimento. Chef Zach Pollack has made quite a name for himself in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA with this awesome little gem of a restaurant. With specialties like squid ink strozzapreti, braised lettuce bruschetta, yellowtail collar affumicato, and their humbly named, ‘pig in a blanket’, you’re going to want to try this place out. Do yourself a favor: get over to Silver Lake and try this place. Your taste buds will be happy.s to Eat in Los Angeles
